Find the right type of care
Answer five short questions to see which type of care to explore first: supported living, residential care, nursing care or memory care. Not a medical assessment.
- Supported living, day care or care at home: Your answers suggest your relative may not need round-the-clock care yet. Supported or independent living, day care or help at home may suit them better than a full care home, with the option of more care later.
- Residential care (personal care): Your answers suggest regular help with personal care, but not constant nursing or specialist dementia support. A residential care home, where staff help with washing, dressing, meals and medication, is a good place to start.
- Nursing and long-term medical care: Your answers suggest significant care or medical needs. Look for a home with qualified nurses available around the clock and clear medical oversight, rather than a residential home without nursing.
- Memory (dementia) care: Your answers suggest memory loss that affects daily life. Look for homes with staff trained in dementia care and an environment designed for it, ideally with a dedicated unit.
